Peter Butler

Years on the trail: 2006

Favorite Working Media: Used to be wood until I starting whacking sheets of steel with a hammer.

Personal Inspiration: My inspiration is a mixture of Colorado and John King, the trail's founder and guru. Having a brain-storming session with John is like having a psychodelic experience. Abstract ideas flow out of his mind and spark ideas in you that you didn't know you could have. I have been woodworking for many years making guitars and furniture but this is the first time I have made pieces for outside public consumption. When I first came to Colorado I was overwhelmed by the clear skies. During the day the sun is a constant companion and at night the stars always twinkle. My sundials celebrate the sun and how it gives us time and seasons.

Lisa Dieken

Years on the trail: 2006

Favorite Working Media: 2D - soft pastels, charcoal 3D - undecided

Personal Inspiration: Having mostly worked in two dimensions, it has been fun and challenging creating the sculptures for the Sculpture Trail. The subjects of my drawings have been realistic landscapes, animals and flowers although I find the process and resulting art of spontaneous drawing very intriguing.

John King

Years on the trail: 2005 2006

Favorite Working Media: Steel, Wind and Water

Personal Inspiration: John is the founder and prime mover being the Sculpture Trail. He likes to make things that move; either moving with the wind or moving with the flow of water. He uses naturals materials such as polished river stones and steel. He works very fast as the ideas flow out of him. A piece is barely finished before he starts on another idea.
